Nash Dominates WSS Support
February 22
- Joining the two night show as a support act to the World Series Sprintcar Grand Final at the Perth Motorplex, the Wingless Sprints made the most of the big crowd opportunity to put on a good show for the race fans.?>Running an abbreviated program, each driver competed in one heat with finishing position determining his start position for the main event. Heat 1 on opening (Friday) night was taken by Australia 1, Daryl Clayden while Heat 2 went to “Birthday Boy”, Marshall McDiarmid aboard the Greg Migro prepared #7 entry.
Ryan Condren who has struggled for form this season managed to set a second fastest lap in his qualifying heat but a shifted radiator shorted out his battery bring his recovery to an end. Daryl Clayden was also unable to start the feature after continuing engine problems.
The dominant Lee Nash went on to win the feature followed by Marshall McDiarmid.
The nineteen strong field backed up for night two with a withdrawal Liam Dowling. Former 410 Sprintcar driver, Pino Priolo came out to play in a Merv Lowther prepared racecar and later commented just how different the Wingless category is to set up and drive. The track was well prepared and offered pole line-to-fence drivability so set up was critical.
Heat wins were recorded by Lee Redmond (having sorted out his engine problems) and Lee Nash.
The feature event had the two Lees (Nash and Redmond sharing the front row with Pino Priolo and Brendan Condren on the second row.
As is now customary, Lee Nash went onto record his 7th straight feature event following his opening night crash and injury.
