November 30 - With the calendar about to flick over to December, that can mean only one thing. Strictly speaking, of course most would suggest Xmas is close, but for W.A wingless sprint drivers it also means the Southern Showdown at Albany Speedway is close. With around $5 000 available in tow and prize money, this race is a genuine heavy hitter on the WSWA calendar and has already attracted interest from a very impressive selection of drivers chasing the glory, not to mention the cash. Current Northern Territory state champion Daniel Keen heads up the nomination list, along with 2009 and reigning (or should that be raining) national champ, Daryl Clayden. Hills Panel & Paint 10,000 Series leader Kyle Beard is also amongst the nominations, while Ryan Condren will be looking to defend the honour of the locals following his impressive second place at the recent Wingless King of Kwinana event. $500 is on the line for the winner of the Southern Showdown, so those four men listed above, along with the rest of the growing list of nominations certainly won't be rolling around for second place. That's not to say it's exactly winner take all however, with a cash prize payout to 14th and tow money to all competitors making the trip down Albany Highway. On top of that, Transit Clothing will be providing a $50 voucher to all drivers that race on the night. With the generous support of several local Albany businesses, as well as Rogue Race Products and Transit Clothing, this is now one of the big dollar meets of the 2011 / 12 season and for spectators that means a great spectacle of Wingless Sprint racing on the 10th at Albany Speedway. |
