January 11 - In just 3 days the Wingless Sprints will head down to Margaret River Speedway for Round 10 of the Rogue Race Products Season Championship, which also has significant prize money on the line thanks to the generosity of John Keen and his Keen Truck Driver Training business. With a payout of $750 for the feature win, 21 cars head south this weekend looking for a solid payday, with 16 of those drivers eligible for a $1 000 bonus. Any driver who has not won a round of the season championship to date this season is able to pick up the extra cash. Marshall McDiarmid, Kyle Beard, Scott Elst and Daryl Clayden were the previously out of contention drivers, while Daniel Keen took out the Sprintcar Muster last week at the Perth Motorplex to add himself to the list of drivers that will see Keen Truck Driver Training keep the moeny in their pocket if they should win. If I was the Keen's accountant I'd be concerned. While some seriously high quality drivers are a cheaper win for the sponsors, there are plenty of more than capable peddlers who can add their name to the winner's list on a neat night to do so. Daniel Coleman took out the recent non points round at Albany and would love to bag the cash, while Allan Nash steps into the W21 for only the second time this season and is always competitive when he does. Drivers such as Danny Attwood, Jono Coyle and Merv Lowther all have race wins this season in heat racing, while the likes of Ben Migro and Ash Hounsfield are both comfortably within the Top 10 of the season points and very able to record a win if the night pans out well for them. 7 of the top 10 drivers in the points will be present on Saturday night, so there will be no easy points, no easy places and certainly no easy cash. The race format will see two rounds of 8 lap heats per car, with the Top 12 qualifiers going direct to the 20 lap A Main. The remaining 9 will battle out the B Main over 10 laps, with the top 6 taking up the last spots in the 18 car final. The racing starts at Margaret River at 5pm, with the first heat for the wingless cars likely to roll onto the track around 5.30pm. Hot laps and wheel packing will be at 4.30 following the compulsory driver's meeting at 4.15, with hot lap sessions (5 laps) in the same groups of cars as the first round of heats. Information for all drivers, please stay on the track following wheel packing so you are ready for hot laps when called. For the driver's, racing at Margaret River Speedway is always a top night of quality racing on a good track with a fantastic club who support our class. For spectators, Margaret River suits the wingless cars to a tee, and the racing is likely to be exciting with not all cars guaranteed a feature start, a rarity for the class in recent times. Thanks must go to Keen Truck Driver Training for their generous support, along with all the other sponsors that support Wingless Sprints W.A. Look forward to seeing you Saturday night. Wingless Sprints WA would like to thank all their sponsors for season 2011 / 12, with the support from season sponsor Rogue Race Products, and Gold Sponsors Steel Blue Workwear, Transit Clothing, Jim Kidd Sports and Keen Driver Training assisting in getting the club on the road to a successful season. |
